COMMUNITY SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (2 members and 1 alternate member vacancy)
The Parks and Recreation Board is an important advisory board in the local government of our community. It consists of five members, appointed by the mayor, with one alternate member. The Board is responsible for reviewing issues related to parks and recreation programs, budgets, capital improvements plans, and elements of the Comprehensive Plan. They are also expected to make recommendations on these matters as needed. This board plays a crucial role in ensuring that our parks remain well-maintained and up-to-date with current programs and facilities available for all citizens to enjoy.
Terms: 3 years. Meets 3rd Tues. at 2:30 p.m. monthly as called. Average meeting time: 3 hours per meeting. Application deadline: March 10, 2023.
EAST NAPLES BAY CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE (1 member and 1 alternate member vacancy for residents
within the East Naples Bay District boundaries. Members must live in Oyster Bay, Golden Shores, or Royal Harbor.)
This committee has a key role in the canal maintenance district, voicing its opinion to the City Council on issues within the district. Its recommendations are essential for keeping canals and adjacent waters navigable, safe and clean. The scope of services it delivers includes maintaining dredging operations, conducting canal cleanups, providing assistance for leasehold private aids to navigation safety and development projects, and understanding specific individual private aids needs. It is clear that this committee has an important job to do so that citizens can enjoy navigate waterways with ease and confidence.
Terms 3 years. Meets quarterly 3rd Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Average meeting time: 1 hour per meeting. Application deadline: February 3, 2023.
ETHICS COMMISSION (1 member anticipated vacancy)
The 5-member board established to support the integrity of City government and its decision-making process has a broad range of responsibilities to ensure trust in our local government. Chief amongst these is addressing unethical conduct when it is discovered, as well as training and advising City officials and employees on ethical matters. By creating an avenue for reporting undesirable behavior and ensuring that our public servants adhere to the highest standards of ethics, the board serves as a guardian of public trust. In doing so, they are helping to build confidence in our City government and initiating lasting reforms that restore order and decency.
Terms: 4 years. Meets 1st Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Average meeting time: 3 hours per month. Application deadline: January 30, 2023.
PENSION SYSTEM BOARDS OF TRUSTEES (1 General Pension vacancy)
Working with the pension plans of the General Employees, Police and Fire Pension groups requires diligence and precision. As part of the job duties, administrators must review retirements for eligibility and make revisions to ensure plans are in compliance with government regulations. Additionally, investments must be monitored to ensure the best returns for participants. Meeting these goals will result in a secure retirement for all members of these three pension groups.
Terms: 2 years for Fire and Police and 4 years for General. Meets quarterly as well as in an annual all day symposium. Average meeting time: 3 hours per quarter. Application deadline: March 10, 2023.
PLANNING ADVISORY BOARD (1 regular and 1 alternate
member vacancy)
The 7-member board of the local community is responsible for making decisions on a wide range of land use, planning and zoning issues. An alternate member is also part of the team to ensure that the necessary expertise can always be called upon for complex or specialized matters. The highly qualified members of this board are able to review and recommend changes to the community’s development plans, investigate public complaints relating to land use, and consult with relevant experts in their area of expertise when needed. This ensures that the needs of local residents and businesses are met at all times.
Terms 3 years. Meets 2nd Wednesday at 8:30a.m. and as needed for workshops. Average meeting time: 10 hours per month. Application deadline: April 7, 2023.
