Johnny King is living out his baseball dreams as one of the few high school prospects from Southwest Florida to be invited to USA Baseball’s 2023 Prospect Development Pipeline hosted by Major League Baseball in Cary, North Carolina. The talented player has been recognized as a 2024 Baseball America top 30 and Southwest Florida Baseball Player of the Year for his impressive stats and led his team in nearly every numerical category. Excitement rose levels further after King got the start for Team Navy on Thursday and contributed to a combined no-hitter, secured by a 6-4 victory.

Johnny King proudly represented Southwest Florida at the 2023 Prospect Development Pipeline hosted by USA Baseball and Major League Baseball in Cary, North Carolina last week. King was one of the few chosen to receive an invite to the league, which ran from June 26-July 3 at USA Baseball’s headquarters. His enthusiasm for the experience was clear when he expressed his joy and gratitude, noting that it was a dream come true and an incredible opportunity. King hopes to make it to the final stage in Taiwan with the best players in the country.

King, a 2023 Southwest Florida Baseball Player of the Year, showcased why he deserves to be among the top 30 high school prospects in the 2024 class, according to Baseball America. His impressive stats included 73 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched with a 4-2 record and 1.11 ERA. At the plate, King shined with a .443 batting average, 39 hits, 27 RBI and 11 doubles – leading his team in each category. These accomplishments earned him an invitation to compete at the USA Baseball’s 18U National Team League and the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup from Sept. 1-10 in Tainan, Taiwan.

On Thursday, King got the start for Team Navy and threw two innings without allowing a hit and an earned run while walking three and striking out two. King’s efforts helped secure a 6-4 win and a combined no-hitter for Team Navy.

After the game, King proudly reflected on the dedication and hard work that had led him to this moment. He expressed relief that his efforts were leading to success, noting that he no longer had to worry about why things weren’t working out. King’s impressive performance was witnessed by several Major League alumni in attendance, including Michael Cuddyer, LaTroy Hawkins, Jason Maxwell, Doug Mientkiewicz, Jack Wilson, and former Major League hitting coach Rick Eckstein.

King spoke of his ambition to gain a greater understanding of how these professionals reached the pinnacle of their sport, and declared that receiving the call to don the stars and stripes of Team USA would be the best feeling ever. It has been a lifelong dream for King to play in this team, and he hopes that it can come true.
